Anime Music Highlights - August 2026

Welcome to the very first post of a new format I'm calling "Anime Music Highlights". The goal is to look back on the month's anime music releases, the ones you shouldn't have missed, but also tracks that are now ready to be added to your wishlists!

A wave of 2000s–2010s nostalgia

August had a strong start on the streaming side, with the release of the beautiful Toradora! OST by Yukari Hashimoto (Mawaru Penguindrum, Komi Can't Communicate), alongside a reissue of the BEST ALBUM「√HAPPYEND」 featuring all the anime's songs plus 20 additional tracks from the composer.

We also got a great release from the early 2000s, with the Kaleido Star OST composed by Mina Kubota (Aria the Animation, Amanchu!). We also got the Oh! Edo Rocket opening by Puffy AmiYumi, which was the very last anime song from the duo that had yet to make it onto streaming.

Record label AniTone Music (formerly MAGES & 5pb Records) also treated us to a new batch of releases after a two-month break. This one includes the 11eyes opening, the ChäoS;HEAd Vocal Collection, and tracks from NouCome, Corpse Party, Megane na Kanojo and Nyan Koi!, all finally available on streaming. On top of that, the Steins;Gate OST, VOCAL BEST and Symphonic Reunion are now available worldwide on Apple Music (they were already on Spotify and Deezer).

Summer 2026: late arrivals & surprises

A few tracks from the current season took their time, dropping more than a month after their anime started airing — most notably the Grand Blue Season 3 opening by FUNKY MONKEY BΛBY'S and the Black Torch opening by SiM.

Among the pleasant discoveries worth checking out: the episode 6 ending of Dara-san of Reiwa, performed by the legendary Masaaki Endo (from JAM Project) who sang the Yuusha-Ou GaoGaiGar openings and Yu☆Gi☆Oh! 5D's openings "BELIEVE IN NEXUS" (still missing 🥲) and "Ashita e no Michi".

Kyoto Animation's new series Sparks of Tomorrow, set during the Meiji era (1868–1912), surprised us with a heavy metal insert song "Mindquake Muuuusic".

If you're watching I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day, the magical warfare yuri anime, you've probably been moved by episodes 7 and 8's ending song performed by Seiran and Ali.
